Storytelling

I had the opportunity to help judge at the storytelling assembly today and have to say that all of the storytellers did a great job. In fact, they were so good I want to have students regularly tell stories during library time. If this is something you would be interested in, please let Mrs. Morley know.

Dr. Seuss

March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' birthday. The "Suessville" website has tons of fun games, videos and info on Dr. Suess and his characters/books. I will be sharing some of the site with students this week but you can explore more on your own by going to the "Seussville" link under online resources.

I want to thank all those that have supported our book fairs this year either by volunteering or purchasing books. With our rewards, and money earned, we have been able to get many books and supplies for the media center. With some of the rewards we will soon be getting this rug to go along with our fantasy theme and are also making plans to get new couches. We couldn't have done this without your help and support.
Thank you, Mrs. Morley

I am showing a presentation about President's Day this week. As part of it we watch 2 short movies from history.com about the white house and George Washington. Go to the history.com link under online resources to find other cool movies about history.

Fractured Fairy tales

Many classes have been reading (and making up their own) fairy tales and nursery rhymes so this week I am sharing a fractured fairy tale "Previously" by Allan Ahlberg. You can make up your own fractured fairy tale with your favorite fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters... it's kind of fun!!

On Vetran's Day we talked about vetran Gail Halvorsen, known as "The Chocolate Bomber." Mr. Halvorsen still lives (part time) in our area, and has family here, so the students wrote notes of gratitude to him for his service.
To my surprise we received a response and I am excited to share the letter Gail wrote during library this week, along with the story of a girl that also received a letter from Gail Halvorsen, "Mercedes and the Chocolate Pilot" by Margot Theis Raven.

Thank you Mr. Halvorsen!
